Yo crecí en un lugar donde la poesía y la música trova de Silvio Rodríguez se escuchaba siempre. En un tiempo donde resonaba la revolución política, los chicos encontrábamos un aire de profundidad en el arte que nos rodeaba. En esencia, todos queríamos también ser poetas.

Esta canción ha sido una de mis favoritas de este cantautor. Una de las mas famosas, claro. Y saber que se la escribió a un amor imposibilitado por la guerra en Cuba. Me conmovió a editarla a una versión moderna downtempo para poder escucharla y bailarla. Para sentir esa pasión que todos en estos tiempos sentimos por amores o libertad imposibilitada de cierta manera.

OJALA que logremos transformar en belleza esos sentimientos, así como Silvio logró componer una de las piezas más hermosas a partir de tanto dolor.

I grew up in a place where Silvio Rodriguez's poetry and ‘trova’ music were constantly played. In a time where the political revolution was always present, we as kids found ourselves surrounded by an atmosphere of artistic depth. In essence, we all also wanted to be poets.

This song has been one of my favorites from this Cuban singer-songwriter. ‘Ojalá’ means ‘hopefully’ in Spanish and it is one of his most famous songs written by Silvio to a lost love prevented by the war in Cuba. I felt the impulse to edit this piece to a modern downtempo version so it could become part of our present story. So we can dance to the same passion that all of us in these times feel for love or freedom that is prevented to us in a certain way.

I made sure the feeling is transmitted in the atmosphere of the music.

Hopefully (Ojalá), we can transform those feelings into beauty, just as Silvio managed to compose one of the most beautiful pieces from so much pain.
